Dear Parents

I would like to welcome you to the Association of Pelican Parents (the “APP”).

The aim of the APP is to support the work of the School by strengthening and enhancing the relationship between staff, parents, prospective parents and others associated with the School.  We aim to further this feeling of community through organising a variety of fun social events throughout the year.  The APP is a wonderful way to make new friends and keep up with established ones!

Whilst the role of the APP is not primarily fund raising, we do manage to raise, through our events, a significant amount of money which is then used for the benefit of the School.  Over the years, funds raised by the APP have been used for a wildlife project, to purchase play, ICT and playground equipment, amenities for the staff & a 10th birthday gift to the School of Percy the very regal pelican statue.  The App also runs second hand uniform sales throughout the year.

The APP Committee is made up of parents with two “Class Representatives” from each year who meet, with Mrs. Oates, on a monthly basis.  Our Class Representatives are an important link between the Committee and the parent community, thus keeping everyone informed about the various events being organised or issues being discussed.  Nominations for the Committee are sought in October of each year.  The APP also provides an opportunity for parents to become more closely involved with the life of the School.  We rely on the support and help of parents to serve teas, help out at uniform sales and staff events – please let your Class Representative know if you’d like to donate a few hours of your time on an ad hoc basis, it would be most welcomed.

Some of the fun events we planned for this academic year are a light hearted Wine tasting Evening on 3rd December, a Panto trip to see Dick Whittington, a Quiz Night scheduled for March, a Summer Ball(in conjunction with the Prep Parents' Association) and a Summer Fete.

I would like to acknowledge and thank our hard working Committee whose creativity and dedication make the APP possible:

I do hope the above encourages you to want to know more about our Parents’ Association and I look forward to meeting you at one of our forthcoming events.

With very best wishes,
Julie Routledge (RGM,1CB, 2LC)

Chair of the APP
