History has an important place in the curriculum at the Perse Prep School. Our aim is to teach children about the past in a way which will help them make sense of the world in which they live. They are taught about important events and developments in Britain's past, about ancient civilisations and the history of other parts of the world. Work is based upon topics set in the National Curriculum but extended to meet the pupils' needs.
At the end of their four years at the school the pupils should have an understanding of chronology and historical concepts and vocabulary. Whilst fact provides a basis for teaching, pupils are encouraged to make their own interpretations of the past based on a variety of evidence. This includes contemporary writing, paintings, photographs and documents. Modern reconstructions also play a part through the use of educational videos and participation in re enactments. Visits are made to local museums and historical sites.
