Facilities
Most teaching takes place in the Economics Room, adjacent to the Sixth Form Centre. The department's success in the Bank of England 2.0 Competition has enabled us to equip the Economics Room to a high standard with video projector, interactive whiteboard, video and audio equipment and five new flat-screen computers. In addition to the new technology, the pupils have access to a large departmental library, economics periodicals and the Financial Times.
The AS/A2 Course
We currently teach the AQA AS/A2 specification and will follow the AQA AS/A2 Economics course from 2008. Details are available on the Economics page of the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) website.
We hope that by the end of their Economics Course, in addition to their A grade, pupils will have developed:
- A sound understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life.
- The ability to apply economic concepts and theories in a range of contexts and to appreciate their value and limitations in explaining real-world phenomena.
- The desire and ability to formulate and present their own ideas and opinions on a wide range of theoretical and real world issues.
A feature of Economics at The Perse is the strong emphasis on class discussion and debate, and a determination to stress the links between textbook theory and the real debates and issues that exercise the minds of businessmen, bankers and politicians.
